Lighting should be well thought out with your encloser design. No way should there be even a chance
for contact with the lighting or be able to get too close as thermo burns will occur! I use two 100watt bulbs 16"-20"
above substate floor both at one end of encloser. This will allow them to choose there comfort zone as far as there body temps
require. Also under these lights I have stacks of clay and wood tiles above and just below substrate. That allows a variety
of temps to choose from.Uv lights can be offered but havent proven to be required. Depending on night time temps during the
summer months lights can be left on 24/7 so temps dont drop below 75 deg. or other heating such as ceramic heaters may be
used for night time if the lights cant be left on.

Lights will need to be adjusted to optimize your overall encloser temps. Cool side should be 80-85deg. and
surface basking temp should be around 140deg. with gradients lower, hatchling size a little lower at 120deg. Remember these
are surface temps and can be checked using a temp gun. Inside there burrow temps are cooler at about 75-80deg. Lighting will
change with season(see Health) |
